Roots Workshop

As most of you know, I headed out to the Roots Workshop last week in Cape Cod. It was without a doubt an amazing experience. I shared the week of learning with so many wonderfully talented people who I now consider friends.

This workshop is one that is solely focused on learning to be a better photojournalist. The team leaders, mentors and our hostess all have the firm belief that no matter how good you are, there is always a way to be better. It is the kind of workshop that you can attend every year. There are no repeats because they just start with what you do now and move forward. I don't spend a lot of time or money on attending every workshop I hear about. I only attend one a year. So, when it came time to choose for this year, there was, in my opinion, only one. I will talk a bit more about my assignment and share images from it tomorrow, but for now I want to focus a bit more on the experience.

I don't like to become stagnant in my work and the only way to ensure that this doesn't happen is to get outside of my comfort zone and get honest feedback from other professionals in the industry. We spent the week together in a huge house on the Cape and in doing so really got to know the other people there. I shared a room with a photographer from Portland whom I stayed up late with every night chatting about our assignments and the experience we were having.

I walked away from the trip exhausted, but knowing that I had done the right thing in attending.

And our hostess with the mostess ... Emilie, who took such good care of us. She also did an amazing job putting this whole thing together and spending 15 months getting our asssignments set up!
