Flying Pig Marathon pics
We got downtown at 6:00 am on Sunday for the Flying Pig Marathon. My husband was running a relay supporting Pat Conrey. Pat was running in memory of Oscar Armstrong, Robin Broxterman and Brian Shira and to raise money for Robin and Oscar's children's education funds. But wait, there's more ...
He decided to run the marathon in FULL 'turnout' gear!! Oh yeah. You heard me right.
Here are just a few of my pics of their big day ...
His Oscar Armstrong sticker on his helmet ... which, yes, he ran in.
His Colerain Township badge ...
They had t-shirts made up for him and his team.
And, here he is getting his pack on ...
I just liked this shot of one of the guys getting his gloves on ...
Pat and my husband ...
There they go heading out ...
After the first leg ...
The ankle strap exchange ...
And, somewhere between these two photos, during my husband's run ... these firefighters saved someone's life. Amazing. If you haven't heard the story, click HERE to watch a video.
I think my husband is glad to be done with his leg of the race!
For those of you who have never driven a relay team around during the Flying Pig, you do a lot of THIS! At one point we actually got stuck in a loop completely surrounded by the marathon and the half marathon that loops back around. So, we almost didn't make it to the next relay point in time!
As we were waiting for Pat and his team to come in from the third leg (somewhere around the 20 mile marker), guess who we saw?? Yay Amy!!!!
First of all I have to say that this woman is absolutely amazing! She set out (note her badge color) to run the half marathon and ended up running the whole thing! Second, WHO
LOOKS THIS CUTE after running 20 miles??? Seriously.
LOOKS THIS CUTE after running 20 miles??? Seriously.
The funny part is, I knew it was her as soon as I saw the pink! Here she is grabbing an orange slice ...
And a plug for Cincy Chic!
Right behind her were our guys ...
Here they are heading into the finish line ...
Oscar's family showed up at the finish and Pat had pins for all of them ...
Here he is receiving his medal ...
And a very emotional hug ...
The boys! I love the beer in Pat's hand!!
Congratulations everyone!
And, as Karen said in the last comment section: "Run a marathon ... save a life ... all in a day's work" for these guys.
